PETALING JAYA:
More than 60 flood victims seeking refuge at Kampung Tasek Bakong in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan, have been left with no choice but to boil flood waters for drinking.

The victims said all roads leading into the area have been inundated with flood waters, and no clean water supply has reached them the past two days.

One of them, Muzipah Che Muda, 54, said they could no longer wait for clean water to arrive and the children had started complaining of thirst.

She said they have also been using the boiled water for cooking and to prepare milk for babies.

“We know that this area is hard to access, and we pray that no harm will come to us,” she said, according to Berita Harian.

Muzipah also said all the victims have gathered at a house belonging to one of the residents, which has not been flooded, but only the outside of the house is in half a metre of flood waters.

Another resident, Yatin Mat Yaakob, 46, said they have no option but to sleep in cramped spaces in the house while others slept in cars.

He said they chose not to be placed at temporary evacuation centres because of overcrowding.

“Some have been left with nothing but the roofs over their heads, but we are thankful that we still have some place to seek shelter,” he said.

He also said they are using generators for electricity, especially to charge their phones, as power supply has been cut off.
