Rafizi ordered to file defence in Tuan Ibrahim’s suit

KUALA LUMPUR:
The High Court here has instructed Rafizi Ramli to respond to PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man’s lawsuit for claiming that he had approved a RM2 billion project after Parliament was dissolved.

Rafizi’s lawyer, Nik Zarith Nik Moustpha, said the court ordered the PKR deputy president to file his defence statement before Dec 28 during case management today.

He said Tuan Ibrahim has to file a reply, if any, to Rafizi’s defence before Jan 11.

The court has set Jan 25 for the next case management.

Tuan Ibrahim filed the suit against Rafizi last month after Rafizi claimed the then environment and water minister was in the process of awarding a RM2 billion flood mitigation project to an Umno-linked company.

Rafizi alleged that the project, related to a flood barrier at Sungai Langat, was the second contract awarded to the same company in the past six months.

Tuan Ibrahim denied Rafizi’s allegation and challenged him to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

He maintained that a caretaker government could not approve any financial allocation as it was against a Treasury circular.
