This came after Fadillah said the motion of confidence in Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim should be passed since his appointment had the consent of the King and the Conference of Rulers.
Shahidan then interjected, saying the Dewan Rakyat’s Standing Orders stated that the King and Conference of Rulers should not be used to influence the outcome of proceedings.
Speaker Johari Abdul then said Fadillah was merely stating the facts in his speech.
Sany Hazman (PH-Hulu Langat) said: “(This vote of confidence was called) because Tambun (Anwar) is brave, unlike the eighth prime minister.”
Sany was referring to former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin. Numerous MPs had filed motions of no confidence against Muhyiddin when he was in the top post, but the motions were never allowed to be tabled.
This led to a shouting match between Sany, Shahidan and other MPs from both government and opposition blocs.
In an attempt to cool the situation, Johari told Shahidan that 12 MPs will get the opportunity to debate the motion.
But the ruckus worsened after an unknown MP allegedly said the word “bodoh” (stupid), prompting Sim Tze Tzin (PH-Bayan Baru) and RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) to urge the MP to retract the remark, describing it as unparliamentary.
Johari then ordered the MPs to keep quiet and called for the debate on the motion to take place, with opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin (PH-Larut) the first in line.
