Names of 6 dead victims in Batang Kali landslide released

Five rescued still warded in hospitals, says Nadma.

The authorities have released the identities of some of those who died in the Batang Kali campsite tragedy in which 23 people have been confirmed dead.

The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) named six of the dead, who were positively identified by their next of kin or through fingerprints.

They were Lim Wei Xin, Hong Mei Jing, Nurul Azmani, Lai Lee Yin, Lai Lee Koo and a nine-year-old boy, Tong Kai.

Five other victims, aged 12 to 44, are receiving treatment at the Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selayang and Kuala Lumpur hospitals.

Those who remain warded are Yam Lee Yen, 41, Tan Ei Ein, 43, Choo Wai Lun, 34, Ling Zi Xuan, 19, and Loh Teng Shu, 44.

Three others were discharged yesterday. They were Ng Wei Lun, 13, Mg Tan, 34, and Cheah Hui Kein, 32.

A landslide in the early hours yesterday hit three campsites near the Batang Kali-Genting Highlands road.

Based on the campsite operator’s visitor registration record, there were 94 campers at the site during the landslide and 61 people were rescued.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with 10 more victims still missing.
