We applied to convert land status of service centre, says Zuraida

Former Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin says the Selangor government failed to give any approval, despite the service centre operating at the same place for nine years.

PETALING JAYA:
Former Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin says she had applied for permission to convert the land status of her former service centre, but did not receive any approval even until the recent general election (GE15).

She said the service centre had been operating for the past nine years and that it used to be an abandoned building.

The former plantation industries and commodities minister added that the service centre at Jalan Kerja Air Lama was in a “strategic location”, suggesting that was the reason why the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) had taken over the building yesterday.

“Even until the recent general election, we were not able to obtain the approval of the relevant authorities, namely the Selangor government under Pakatan Harapan,” she said in a statement.

Zuraida had been the Ampang MP since 2008 but failed to defend her seat in last month’s general election. It was won by Pakatan Harapan’s Rodziah Ismail.

Yesterday, an MPAJ spokesman told FMT that the council had taken over the property as it did not have the relevant approval to operate as a service centre.

Zuraida later confirmed that the property had been handed back to MPAJ since she was no longer the Ampang MP.
