PETALING JAYA:
Deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has given him one month to settle unresolved demands related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Having returned to Kuching, Sarawak, with three other federal ministers, Fadillah said his priority at the moment was to discuss the matter at the state government level.

“I have also asked Sabah and Sarawak affairs minister Armizan Ali to meet with the Sabah chief minister (over the matter),” he said in an Instagram post.

“We will wait first for the rest, as we may have to bring this to the Dewan Rakyat. We will work on finalising whatever that has already been discussed and can be finalised within this one month.”

Fadillah said the Sarawakian Cabinet ministers would be seeking Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and the state government’s direction on what they needed to focus on for the Bornean state.

He added that they would brief the state leadership on the unity government’s status and the results of discussions in the Cabinet, which had met twice this week.

“From there, we will discuss what GPS’ role is at the federal level in the unity government.”

Fadillah had flown back to Kuching earlier today with national unity minister Aaron Ago Dagang. Works minister Alexander Nanta Linggi and women, children and community development minister Nancy Shukri returned last night.

Meanwhile, tourism, arts and culture minister Tiong King Sing remains in the peninsular due to other commitments involving his ministry.

On Monday, Anwar said Fadillah had been tasked to ensure that all pending matters related to MA63 would be expedited.
