Cabinet will care for Indian community, says Sivakumar

The newly appointed human resources minister allays concerns the community is being sidelined.

Human resources minister V Sivakumar says the formulation of any policy must benefit all people, regardless of race.
PETALING JAYA:
Human resources minister V Sivakumar has attempted to allay concerns the Indian community will be sidelined as he is the only Malaysian Indian minister in the newly formed Cabinet.

He said the responsibility of looking after the well-being of all Malaysians, including the Indian community, was shared by all Cabinet members in the unity government and was not solely borne by a minister of the same race.

“The responsibility of solving the problems faced by the Indian community does not rest on my shoulders alone, but on the entire Cabinet.

“We will ensure that the formulation of any policy is for all the people, regardless of race,” Bernama quoted him as saying after he clocked in at his office at the human resources ministry in Putrajaya today.

He was greeted on arrival by the ministry’s acting secretary-general, Khair Razman Annuar, and other senior officers.

The Batu Gajah MP said there were still many representatives from the community in the Dewan Rakyat who could help the government make balanced policies without marginalising any race.

On his future plans, he said his main focus would be to resolve issues on human resources and unemployment.

He intended to spend the first one or two weeks meeting and having discussions with all relevant stakeholders.
