The domestic trade and cost of living ministry’s Selangor chief enforcement officer, Khairi Jamaludin, said even if there is a shortage, it would only be temporary and confined to certain localities.
He added that supply will be restored within a reasonable period.
“Undeniably, there is a limited purchase for eggs, but the situation is not critical,” he said in a statement, also calling for cooperation from consumers to make purchases according to their needs.
He urged consumers not to engage in panic buying nor keep a surplus of stock.
On the 1kg cooking oil packets, Khairi said inspections conducted today found that the supply was stable and sufficient to meet the demand of customers in the state.
“The government’s directive to limit to only three packets per purchase is reasonable to ensure that everybody gets to enjoy subsidised cooking oil,” he said.
Khairi said that the ministry’s Selangor enforcement division would continue to conduct daily checks on the price and supply of essential items in the market.
