5G tender process was transparent, says DNB

Digital Nasional pledges full cooperation with a review of the 5G rollout which has been ordered by the prime minister.

Digital Nasional, the wholesale supplier of 5G services, awarded a contract to Ericsson last year for the rollout of the new technology.
PETALING JAYA:
The tender process for the country’s 5G network rollout was done transparently and managed by a top accounting firm, says Digital Nasional Bhd, the government company handling the rollout.

The company said it hoped that a review ordered by the prime minister, Anwar Ibrahim, would clear the air and enable full execution and implementation of the 5G rollout.

Anwar had said earlier today that he had instructed a review of the federal government’s award of the 5G rollout which he alleged “was not done in a transparent manner, with no proper tender process”.

The 5G contract, costing an estimated RM11 billion, was awarded by DNB to Swedish telecommunications giant Ericsson in July last year.

However, DNB said the tender process had been managed by top global accounting firm Ernst & Young and was “conducted in a transparent manner”.

“DNB hopes the review, as proposed by the prime minister, will clear the air and enable full execution and implementation of the 5G rollout for the benefit of the nation,” it said in a statement.

“DNB is committed to working with the government and will extend our fullest cooperation to facilitate this review.”

Government-owned DNB is responsible for building and managing the 5G network and acts as the single wholesale provider of 5G services.

Celcom Axiata, Digi, Telekom Malaysia, U Mobile and YTL have begun offering retail 5G services to consumers.
