“I appreciate the good intentions of all my brothers and sisters, but this is not in line with management and leadership ethics, and it burdens the people,” Anwar said in a Facebook post.
On Monday, Anwar cancelled an order for a Mercedes S600 limousine by the Prime Minister’s Department. He said the order was made by a previous prime minister, but did not specify who it was.
Last week, Anwar also reiterated an earlier pledge not to receive a salary as the prime minister.
While campaigning during the general election, he said he would not take a salary if appointed as prime minister in a show of solidarity with the people who were struggling with the rising cost of living.
