Amar Zaid Amir Lim, also known as Lim Thiam Fook, was previously charged with lodging a false report at the Sentul police station on June 7, 2021, claiming that he was blackmailed by three policemen.
Amar’s lawyer, Lam Nien Cean, said his client wanted to plead guilty to the charge under Section 182 of the Penal Code.
If found guilty under Section 182, Amar faces a maximum six months in jail or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
Lam said the prosecution had suggested that the defence take up a plea bargain for Amar and, in return, the prosecution would not push for a custodial sentence against him for pleading guilty.
“He will be bound for good behaviour for two years on a RM1,000 bond in one surety,” she said after the closed-door proceedings before magistrate Wong Chai Sia.
She also said Amar felt remorseful over his action and wanted to apologise to the public.
It was reported that Amar claimed he had been extorted by three policemen after he failed to produce a letter allowing him to operate his soup stall during the lockdown in 2021.
He later changed his statement and withdrew his police report.
At a press conference with Amar in June 2021, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said the trader decided to change his statement after he was interrogated by police.
Amad denied lying and insisted that the police officers had extorted him.
