PETALING JAYA:
The Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, has urged politicians to stop using racial or religious issues to incite Malaysians against one another.

In chairing the 260th meeting of the Conference of Rulers at Istana Negara, he called on the new government to foster a spirit of togetherness among Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or culture.

“I hope that leaders would no longer raise racial or religious issues for the purpose of inciting the community.

“I urge the new government to use this opportunity to lead the nation to a higher level,” he said in a speech at the meeting, which was also attended by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Tuanku Muhriz congratulated Anwar and the newly sworn-in Pahang, Perak and Perlis menteris besar on their appointments following the 15th general election.

He hoped that they would carry out their responsibilities dutifully while upholding the principles of Rukun Negara.

Previously, Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the police had discovered social media posts which touched on racial and religious sensitivities following the elections on Nov 19.

Reminding social media users to refrain from misusing such platforms to circulate inflammatory content, he said stern action would be taken against those who threatened security and public order, including under the Sedition Act.

While Acryl Sani did not refer to any particular post, Malaysiakini reported that several TikTok postings had warned of a possible repeat of the May 13 race riots.
