The last meeting was held in June, chaired by the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.

Before the meeting started at 11am, Tuanku Muhriz took the salute before a guard of honour mounted by the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment at the palace’s main square, before planting a tree at the palace compound to symbolise his chairing of the meeting.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, was also present at the tree-planting ceremony.

The guard of honour and tree-planting ceremony were mooted by Sultan Abdullah and had never been held before his appointment as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The 260th meeting of the Conference of Rulers, lasting two days, is also being attended by Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar of Johor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor, Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak, Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah of Kedah and Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu.

Pahang is represented by the regent, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, and Kelantan by the Tengku Mahkota Kelantan, Tengku Muhammad Faiz Petra.

Also attending are the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Penang, Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak; the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Melaka, Ali Rustam; the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah, Juhar Mahiruddin; and the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Abdul Taib Mahmud.

The Malay rulers are accompanied by their respective menteris besar, and the Yang di-Pertua Negeri by their respective chief ministers, except for the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, who is accompanied by the deputy premier.
