The warning, issued at 5.30pm, said bad weather was expected in most parts of Peninsular Malaysia as well as several locations in Sabah and Sarawak.

Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan are expected to be hit by storms while several parts of Kedah, Penang, Perak, Pahang, Johor as well as Sarawak and Sabah will also be affected.

The department said there were indicators of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm/hour over the next few hours.

Earlier, flash floods hit various parts of the Klang Valley after torrential rain that lasted for several hours this afternoon.

This included Kota Warisan and Dengkil in Sepang, Meru, Klang as well as several precincts in Putrajaya.

Two temporary evacuation centres (PPS) were opened tonight following floods that occurred in Kampung Ampar Tenang and Kampung Sri Tanjung in the Sepang district this evening.

The two PPS, namely Dewan Taman Gemilang and Dewan Orang Ramai in Dengkil, housed a total of 103 victims from 29 families.

Selangor’s director of the fire and rescue department Norazam Khamis said earlier that a bund burst following heavy rain in Kampung Ampar Tenang. This caused water to overflow from a nearby housing project.

He said the incident caused floodwaters to rise 1.2m and affected 10 houses.

“All residents, from 18 families, have moved to a safe place.”
