We want Loke as transport minister, KTMB workers union tell Anwar

The union says DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook had a good track record when he helmed the transport ministry under the Pakatan Harapan government.

PETALING JAYA:
The Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) workers’ union has urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to reappoint Loke Siew Fook as transport minister.

In a statement, union president Abdul Razak Hassan said the DAP secretary-general can improve the country’s public transport system because of his good track record helming the ministry when Pakatan Harapan was in power from May 2018 to February 2020.

“We believe with Loke back at the helm of the ministry, the public transport system will benefit and be made more efficient,” he said.

“Compare this to what is happening now (when) people are complaining about the entire transport network, including KTMB and services managed by other operators.”

Razak urged Anwar to consider the group’s request for the benefit of the entire public transport network, especially for KTMB – which is currently facing constraints in delivering the “best service” to its passengers.

He said the KTMB workers’ union is also confident that Loke will pay attention to the welfare of workers and KTMB as a whole.
