PETALING JAYA:
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani has called on Malaysians to respect the democratic process that has led to Anwar Ibrahim’s appointment as prime minister.

In congratulating Anwar on his appointment to the top post, Acryl Sani said the police would continue to ensure public safety and peace under the Pakatan Harapan chairman’s government.

“Amid the ongoing process of the change of government, the police ask for the cooperation of all parties to accept this democratic process well, without creating disharmony in the community.

“Strict action will be taken against any irresponsible party found to be involved in provocative actions or causing racial or religious issues.

“Members of the public are also advised against holding political gatherings or marches in open areas anytime soon, for the sake of public safety and peace,” he said in a statement.

The nation’s top cop also advised netizens to watch their language and behaviour on social media.
