Congratulations began pouring in seconds after Istana Negara announced that the Pakatan Harapan chairman will serve as the nation’s 10th premier.

Facebook user Krishnaveni Mahalingam exclaimed: “Congratulations DSAI (Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim) … so happy for you! Worth the wait!”

Another user, Low Lye Yuan, said she was glad with the announcement, adding that she was looking forward to a better managed country and a stronger economy under Anwar’s stewardship.

Congratulating Anwar, user Choon Meng said: “Please unite the nation during your tenure and bring us back on track.”

On Twitter, user @SanjuDaVinci proclaimed this was the “beginning of the new era”, adding that “justice won”.

Another user, who goes by the handle @CHKen_2, paid tribute to Anwar’s perseverance throughout his political career.

“Anwar’s resurgence is something to (gain inspiration from) for many generations to come. Waited 24 years for this, went through all sorts of political backstabbing and even having to endure imprisonment – but never gave up on his principles. Keep on believing.”

Anwar will be sworn in at 5pm today.
