Voter held for dropping ballot box, 3 for letting off firecrackers

A man was arrested in Seremban for obstructing civil servants and being near the vote counting area, police said.

Three people who let off firecrackers last night after polling ended have been arrested by police, as was a man in Selangor who dropped a ballot box at a polling station during voting.

Police said a man was arrested in Seremban for obstructing civil servants from carrying out their duties and being near the vote counting area at Seremban Town Hall.

Police director of election operations, Hazani Ghazali, said two men were arrested in Seremban for setting off firecrackers outside Tuanku Mambau Club public hall at 7.45pm. A man was arrested in Port Dickson for a similar offence in front of the district office.

In Selangor, a man was detained for causing chaos by dropping a ballot box in the polling station at Yam Lama primary school. The ballot box at polling stream 3 was not damaged, Hazani said.

A total of 501 investigation papers have been opened pertaining to election offences from Nov 4 to Nov 19, he said.
