Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan called for the meeting late last night as results from the ground started to trickle in.
Among the leaders spotted arriving at Umno’s headquarters were vice-president Khaled Nordin and Supreme Council members Ab Rauf Yusoh, Johari Abdul Ghani and Bung Moktar Radin.
The party’s Supreme Council is scheduled to meet at 3pm, while BN’s top leaders will meet at 8pm.
No coalition won enough seats to form the government on its own though BN ended up with far fewer seats compared with rivals Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional.
It is understood that BN leaders will be discussing the way forward including which coalition it will back to form the government.
