
The coalition handed a drubbing to Barisan Nasional, which with its forerunner the Alliance, had been the only party in the state government since independence.
EC chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh, announcing the results at a 2.30am press conference, said 76.4% of voters had turned out for the Perlis state elections.
In the previous state assembly, BN held 10 seats, Pakatan Harapan 3 seats and PN 2 seats.
Perak, along with Perlis and Pahang, had dissolved its state assembly in October in line with the dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat. None of the other states opted to follow suit.
In Perak, PN has won 26 of the 59 state assembly seats in Perak, according to unofficial results. Votes for some seats are still being counted.
Results of the Pahang elections were unavailable at press time.
