PETALING JAYA:
Voters in Ulu Baram, Sarawak, appear to be braving the floodwaters to cast their ballots.

A Facebook user posted pictures of a long line of voters queueing knee-deep in floodwaters at a polling centre in Kampung Long Bemang.

Earlier, Berita Harian reported that polling centres in several flood-hit areas in the northern part of Sarawak have been moved to other locations to allow voters to cast their ballots.

Sarawak police commissioner Azman Ahmad Sapri said the total number of polling stations involved has yet to be ascertained.

“Based on recent information, the district police chief in the affected locations has discussed the matter with the relevant Election Commission (EC) returning officer on the necessary measures to be taken,” he said, adding that updates will be provided later.

Several areas in Limbang, including Mendamit, Sundar and Trusan, as well as in Miri’s Hulu Baram were hit by floods earlier this week.

Azman added that as at 10am today, there have been no incidents reported involving the safety of voters or disruptions in the polling process for Sarawak.
