PETALING JAYA:
As Malaysians go to the polls for the general election, some voters went above and beyond when dressing up to cast their ballots.

At Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Aman in Ayer Itam, Penang, Shahrizal Mat Sahat donned a helmet and shield as Captain America to cast his vote.

Captain America, a symbol of democracy, cast his ballot in Malaysia’s general election.

Independent candidate Lian Choy Ling made an appearance as the God of Prosperity at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Yoke Nam in Kuala Lumpur to vote, a fitting costume given that she is contesting the Seputeh seat under the moniker “Choy San Yeh”. Choy San Yeh is Cantonese for God of Prosperity.

Love was in the air at Taman Muda when a newlywed couple cast their vote at SK Taman Muda in Kuala Lumpur.

Lee Choy Yoong, 30, and her husband, Jacky Har, 30, were accompanied by 10 friends.

Lian Choy Ling, who is contesting as an independent in Seputeh, cast her ballot as the God of Prosperity.

Lee voted alone because her husband had already fulfilled his responsibility earlier last Tuesday during early voting.

A total of 21,173,638 voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the general election. Of the 224,832 eligible early voters, comprising policemen, soldiers and their spouses, 212,961 (or 94.72%) had cast their ballots on Nov 15.

Polling centres in the peninsula opened at 8am while centres in Sabah and Sarawak opened at 7.30am.

Polling is scheduled to end at 6pm in the peninsula and 5.30pm in Sabah and Sarawak.
