Azmin said he was confident the public would be mature enough to realise that Muhyiddin’s speech during a ceramah in Parit Jawa, Johor, on Nov 16 was doctored.
“Muhyiddin has issued a statement that his speech was taken out of context. I believe the public will not be easily fooled by such things.
“Muhyiddin’s leadership proves that we are always focused on ensuring the harmony of Malaysians, regardless of race and religion,” he said when met after voting at SK Klang Gate in Gombak, Berita Harian reported.
Caught in a row over purported efforts to “Christianise” the country, Muhyiddin has accused political opponents of twisting a ceramah speech and circulating an edited video “specifically to tarnish my image and to create a false narrative”.
In a recording of the ceramah, Muhyiddin claimed a group of Jews wanted PH to win the elections and alleged that PH was working with Jews and Christians to “colonise” the country.
In the recording, which had gone viral, the former prime minister also claimed that there were Malays attending church services in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya.
