PETALING JAYA:
Many Padang Serai voters turned up at polling centres in the Kedah constituency, saying they had not heard that the parliamentary election for the seat had been deferred to Dec 7.

Disabled voter Saad-Idi Ismail, 43, told Bernama he had driven from Bukit Mertajam with his family of four to vote at 3pm.

When told by a reporter the local election had been called off, he was in disbelief and asked when the new election date was.

Voter Low Tech Chai, 28, said he had heard about the death of Pakatan Harapan candidate M Karupaiya but did not know the election was called off.

A security guard at the SK Sri Limau, Lunas, said he had turned away over 40 people, including a family arriving from Kuala Lumpur.

The new polling day is Dec 7 with nominations slated for Nov 24. Early voting will be held on Dec 3.

Karupaiya died on Wednesday after a heart attack.
