PETALING JAYA:
Three siblings and their cousin spent the night at a flood relief centre after a 12-hour-long drive so they could vote in the general election (GE15).

According to a Utusan Malaysia report, 25-year-old Nurul Syahirah Aris, her two younger sisters and her cousin had no choice but to stay at the relief centre after their family home in Kubang Kuau was affected by floods.

Her sibling, Nurul Nusuha, 20, said their drive from KL took 12 hours due to the heavy traffic, and they had nowhere to stay when they arrived in their hometown.

“Our family was evacuated to the centre six days ago. We had no choice but to stay overnight with them there,” she said.

“We intend to return to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. Despite facing many challenges, we are still determined to fulfil our duty as Malaysians in GE15.”

The siblings’ cousin Siti Aisyah Zuhariman, 26, said having to stay at the relief centre did not deter them from wanting to vote.

“Coincidentally, the polling centre is also in the school that is being used as a relief centre,” she said.

“So I’ll be heading out early in the morning to vote at the building next door. After voting, we will return home and start cleaning up (after the flood).”
