Some had been in line since 6am, with about 50 voters entering the polling centre when it opened two hours later.
Laila Baba, 70, said the rain could not stop her from carrying out her duty as a Malaysian, adding that she found it “fun” to be in the queue.
“It’s no problem for us. We’re all carrying out our responsibility as Malaysians. In fact, I feel proud. I love it and I’m happy,” she told FMT.
Another Muar resident, Lim Teng Doll, 38, shared Laila’s excitement to vote in the general election.
The rain was a minor issue for him, Lim said, as he could walk to the polling centre with his umbrella since he lived nearby.
Election Commission (EC) officers at the polling centre were also prepared for the rain, wearing raincoats as they assisted voters.
