Prove your ‘Christianisation’ claim, Muhyiddin told

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang asks Muhyiddin Yassin why he didn't discover any such plot when he was home minister in the Pakatan Harapan government.

Muhyiddin Yassin has been slammed by Lim Kit Siang and Christian groups for claiming Pakatan Harapan was linked to groups out to ‘Christianise’ Malaysia.
PETALING JAYA:
Lim Kit Siang has told Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin to produce evidence to back his claim that Pakatan Harapan (PH) was involved in an agenda to “Christianise” the country.

The DAP veteran questioned if Muhyiddin could back his claims, adding that the former home minister similarly could not prove that two DAP members had links to the now-defunct Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

“Muhyiddin has resorted to lies and falsehoods when he alleged PH was an ‘agent of Jews and Christians’ out to colonise Malaysia. He also claimed a group of Jews and Christians were plotting for Malaysia to be ruled by their proxy – PH.

“When did Muhyiddin discover that there was a plot by Jews and Christians to make Malaysia their colony? Was it before Muhyiddin approached me in 2016 to ask for DAP’s support for him to become prime minister, or only in the last few days?

“If the latter, how did Muhyiddin discover the plot of the Jews and Christians, when he was unable to discover the plot when he was home minister in the PH government?” he said in a statement.

Separately, DAP central executive committee member Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali urged the police to immediately probe Muhyiddin’s remarks, describing it as dangerous and irresponsible.

Sheikh Umar warned that the statement could cause tension and disharmony in the nation.

Meanwhile, the Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) said it viewed Muhyiddin’s remarks with grave concern. It urged politicians not to stir up strife or cast seditious aspersions against a race or religious group in order to woo support.

“Any seditious statement which has the effect of disturbing the peace, harmony and well-being of all citizens in our beloved Malaysia must be dealt with by the authorities swiftly and effectively so that it is not repeated.

“We are shocked and appalled that such statements could come from a former prime minister and hope the authorities will take appropriate action so that such irresponsible statements are not made to the public at large again.”

In a recording of a ceramah in Johor on Friday, Muhyiddin claimed a group of Jews want PH to win tomorrow’s elections, and alleged that PH was working with Jews and Christians to “colonise” the country.

In the recording which has gone viral, the former prime minister also claimed that there were Malays attending church services in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya on Sundays.

The Council of Churches of Malaysia (CCM) slammed Muhyiddin over his statement, while PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said the party plans to file an election petition against Muhyiddin.
