PM orders agencies to be on alert for floods

Ismail Sabri Yaakob wants swift and appropriate action to ensure public safety.

Several areas in the Klang Valley, Selangor, Melaka, Kelantan and Johor were flooded following heavy rain since last night.
PETALING JAYA:
The prime minister has ordered all disaster and security-related agencies, as well as state and district disaster management committees to be on alert for flash floods after several areas in various states were inundated by floodwaters early this morning.

Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the agencies should be in a full state of preparedness to act swiftly and appropriately to ensure public safety.

“Orders have been issued to the agencies involved, including the police and fire and rescue departments,” Bernama quoted him as saying after attending a Keluarga Malaysia programme in Bera, Pahang.

“All state and district disaster management committees have been activated.”

He said he did not want the floods that occurred in Sri Muda, Shah Alam, last December to reoccur.

Flash floods were reported to have hit several areas in the Klang Valley, Selangor, Melaka, Kelantan and Johor following heavy rain since last night.
