Early voting ends, ballot papers to be tallied on polling day

The early voting involved a total of 224,828 registered voters.

The ballot papers from the early voting will be kept at police station lockups until Saturday.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Early voting involving a total of 224,828 registered voters ended at 5pm today.

The registered voters comprised 117,473 military personnel and their spouses as well as 107,355 police personnel and their spouses.

A total of 578 early voting centres involving 970 channels, which were opened at state police headquarters, district police headquarters and army camps since 8am, were closed in stages between noon and 5pm, Bernama reported.

Among senior security personnel who cast their votes were Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, defence forces chief Affendi Buang, army chief Zamrose Zain and Sabah police chief Idris Abdullah.

Early voting for the Bugaya state by-election, which was postponed following the proclamation of emergency to curb the spread of Covid-19, was also held today.

The ballot papers from the early voting will be kept at police station lockups.

These ballot papers will be counted on Nov 19, starting at 4pm, at the counting stations designated by the Election Commission and witnessed by agents of respective candidates.

The GE15 involves 222 parliamentary seats and 116 state seats in Perak, Pahang and Perlis as well as the Bugaya by-election in Sabah.
