PUTRAJAYA:
The Court of Appeal has set Dec 19 for further case management of Rosmah Mansor’s appeal against her conviction for corruption in connection with the Sarawak schools’ solar hybrid project worth RM1.25 billion.

Deputy public prosecutor Poh Yih Tinn told reporters the date was set by the court’s deputy registrar Norkamilah Aziz during case management today, Bernama reported.

Poh said the prosecution will request that Rosmah’s appeal against Kuala Lumpur High Court Justice Zaini Mazlan be heard together with the appeal to set aside the conviction and sentence he had handed down.

Joining the online proceedings were lawyers Jagjit Singh and Akberdin Abdul Kader, who represented Rosmah.

On Sept 1, Zaini sentenced Rosmah, the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak, to 10 years in jail and a RM970 million fine after finding her guilty of corruption in connection with the project.

Rosmah, 70, who filed an appeal petition on Oct 13, has submitted 127 reasons, including claiming that Zaini’s entire decision was biased and not based on proper consideration.

Zaini had also rejected Rosmah’s request that he recuse himself from hearing and making a decision on the case.

The court also ordered Rosmah to be jailed for 30 years if she fails to pay the fine.

However, the High Court granted a stay of execution of the prison sentence and fine pending her appeal at the Court of Appeal.

Rosmah was convicted on one charge of asking for RM187.5 million and two charges of receiving bribes amounting to RM6.5 million from former Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin.
