PETALING JAYA:
Military personnel registered as postal voters began voting on Nov 7, said chief of defence forces Gen Affendi Buang.

In a statement, Affendi also said 146,737 military personnel and their spouses will be eligible for early voting on Tuesday at 153 polling stations across the country.

Affendi’s statement comes as Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Anwar Ibrahim said he had evidence that military personnel, particularly those in Bera, had cast their ballots on Friday and were paid RM300 each to do so.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob previously slammed Anwar for his allegation, which he dismissed as “malicious” and “slanderous”.

Ismail, who is defending his Bera seat, urged Anwar to withdraw his statement, saying the PKR president was insulting the armed forces.

The prime minister, however, didn’t deny the possibility that military personnel could have cast postal votes, saying that “under the Election Commission Act, there are categories of postal voters, early voters and normal voters”.

Malaysia will go to the polls on Nov 19.

In his statement, Affendi said the armed forces was ready to assist the Election Commission, local councils and other authorities to ensure a smooth voting process nationwide.
