Hajiji said he would investigate if Rubin, the Kemabong assemblyman, was really behind this contest as it would result in a clash with the candidate from Barisan Nasional (BN).
Rubin’s son, Riduan, who was initially named as an independent candidate for the Tenom parliamentary seat, joined Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) yesterday.
The move followed KDM president Peter Anthony’s nomination being rejected by the Election Commission (EC) over an “unresolved court case”.
KDM is a pro-GRS party. Under the BN-GRS political pact, the Tenom seat is to be contested by BN.
“I have to ask for a report on the matter first. Although Rubin was seen with his son in a picture, he might not be campaigning for him. We have to be fair to everyone.
“But if he’s blatantly supporting his son, we will take action,” the chief minister told reporters after an event here.
Hajiji, who is also Sabah Bersatu chief, said Rubin was still the Tenom division chief, but Riduan had quit the party prior to contesting as an independent candidate.
Yesterday, Sabah BN chief Bung Moktar Radin urged Hajiji to act against Rubin, accusing the latter of breaching the electoral pact between BN and GRS.
Bung also claimed Rubin was behind his son’s entry into KDM.
