“I will definitely bring it (to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat),” he told reporters after a walkabout here.
Khairy added that if, however, Pakatan Harapan won GE15, former health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad would see to it that the bill was tabled.
“We are both committed,” he said, pointing out that Dzulkefly was a member of the parliamentary select committee that fine-tuned the proposed law.
The bill seeks to ban the use, possession and sale of cigarettes and vape products to those born after 2007. It was first tabled in the Dewan Rakyat in July.
It was slated to be tabled for second reading in the Dewan Rakyat last month, but Parliament was dissolved to make way for GE15.
BN’s GE15 manifesto, which was unveiled on Monday night, did not list the GEG bill among its pledges for the healthcare sector.
Meanwhile, Khairy sought to clarify remarks he had made at a ceramah last night where he declared that he wanted to become prime minister one day.
The former Umno Youth chief said this was to show voters that Umno did not have a shortage of leaders to helm the country after Ismail Sabri Yaakob, BN’s prime minister candidate in GE15.
“I want to put my name forward after this (election) for consideration for (the position of) party leader and prime minister candidate,” he said.
