PETALING JAYA:
Mamee-Double Decker Sdn Bhd, one of the country’s most recognisable food brands, has lost its founder.

Pang Chin Hin, who established Pacific Food Sdn Bhd in 1971, the precursor of Mamee, died on Saturday morning at the age of 96.

Through his visionary leadership and support from family members, such as his sons Shi Zhou and Shi Nan, as well as his grandchildren, Mamee has grown into a global brand.

Pang changed the company’s name to Mamee when it was listed in 1992.

Mamee-Double Decker now has more than 50 items on its menu. They include instant noodles of a variety of flavours, snack noodles, biscuits, swiss rolls and soft drinks.

Brands such as Mamee Chef, Mister Potato and Monster have become household names.

Pang also gave away to charity generously, focusing on education and community development needs.

His family has given an assurance that his charitable spirit would live on with a pledge to donate all money collected from well-wishers at the funeral to the Melaka Pay Fong Secondary School, Malim Primary School and the Melaka Hainan Association Education scholarship.
