KUALA LUMPUR:
A workers’ group linked to Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) is calling on the political coalitions vying to form the next government to pledge their support in their fight for better treatment of workers.

Jaringan Pekerja Kontrak Kerajaan wants the next government to immediately implement the RM1,500 minimum wage, blacklist employers who fail to comply with the minimum wage order, and recognise cleaners and security guards as frontliners.

“This is what our members want. We will vote for those who can promise us this,” said the group’s secretary, M Sivaranjani.

Sivaranjani also said they will head to the Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional offices later today to submit their memorandum.

This morning, the group visited Pakatan Harapan’s office, where a representative received the memorandum on behalf of PH.

Earlier this year, the National Union of Workers in Hospital Support and Allied Services called for better pay and working conditions for hospital cleaners, who had not received either wage increments or Covid-19 allowances during the pandemic.
