Lorry driver involved in fatal crash in Melaka remanded for 3 days

Police say the lorry driver was carrying out repairs on the road divider on the extreme right lane when the accident occurred.

The lorry driver involved in an accident which killed a family of three at Km216 northbound of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) near the Ayer Keroh overhead bridge has been remanded for three days starting today.

The remand order was issued by the magistrates’ court assistant registrar Syarina Shaarani @ Tan.

In the accident, Zubaidah Abd Rajak and her husband, Nazirul Syafiq Azmi, both aged 28, and their only child, one-year-old Rizqi, were killed.

Initial investigations at the scene found the lorry driver was carrying out repairs on the road divider at the extreme right lane and was in the process of placing safety cones when the car driven by Nazirul crashed into the lorry.

In KOTA BHARU, two General Operations Force (GOF) personnel died after the car they were in rammed the rear of a stalled lorry on the road shoulder along Jalan Rantau Panjang-Pasir Mas early today.

Pasir Mas police chief Nasaruddin M Nasir said Jerry Layong Nyalin, 32, and Juna Jembat, 39, from the 8th Battalion in Pengkalan Chepa here, died on the spot in the accident which occurred at 4.25am.

“The lorry driver was not in the vehicle when the collision occurred. The bodies were taken to Pasir Mas Hospital,” he said in a statement.
