Anwar tells of strategy behind Tambun move

The PKR chief says his move to a new seat is to expand Pakatan Harapan's chances, after making sure his old seats are secure.

Anwar Ibrahim said he is moving to Tambun to help PH win a new seat in its quest to win the general election.
KUALA LUMPUR:
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said he moves to a different seat at general elections only after ensuring that the winning momentum remains strong in his previous constituencies.

He said his current decision to leave Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, for Tambun, Perak, was made only after a thorough study of the constituency.

“When I left Permatang Pauh (in Penang), it was already strong while I had given lots of attention to Port Dickson as the MP over the last few years.

“And so, I must move and win a new seat to help Pakatan Harapan (PH) win the general election,” he said in an audio recording shared with reporters.

Anwar, who is PH chairman, was confirmed by PKR as the coalition’s candidate for Tambun last night, setting the stage for a possible battle with Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

At the same event, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said that a party assessment showed that Anwar was leading in terms of support in Tambun.
