Malaysian student in Taiwan died of suffocation, says autopsy report

Taipei police say boyfriend confessed to strangling the 24-year-old part-time model after a quarrel over money.

The Malaysian student was found dead in her rented residence in Taipei’s Shilin district on Oct 13.
PETALING JAYA:
A Malaysian university student who was found dead in her apartment in Taipei on Oct 13 died of suffocation and had a broken neck, according to a newly released autopsy report.

Taipei Times said the autopsy’s results also showed that drugs were found in the student’s system at the time of her death.

The student, aged 24, has been identified by her surname Chai and is believed to be from Serdang, Selangor.

Taipei police said last week her boyfriend, identified as Chen, confessed to strangling her after a quarrel over money. They said they had been dating for less than a week.

Sin Chew Daily previously reported that Chai was studying at Ming Chuan University in Taiwan.

She had also been working as a part-time model and social media live streamer.

The Taipei Times report stated that Chai was found dead in her rented residence in Taipei’s Shilin district on Oct 13 and had injuries consistent with strangulation.

Chen was rushed to the hospital on the same day following an overdose of over-the-counter drugs.

It said Chen was arrested and held by police for questioning after he was discharged from the hospital.

During the investigation, Chen said Chai’s death was an accident as he had only intended to scare her during a fight over money, the report said.
