PETALING JAYA:
Only four registered members of Bersatu’s Padang Terap division left the party and not 1,000 people, said the division’s acting head, Zharif Zohdi.

Zharif said the former division leader, Syed Sobri Syed Hashim, who announced his departure today, had actually resigned on Oct 15.

He said Syed Sobri’s departure was expected and was personal in nature, not involving many other Bersatu members.

“Our records show only four people who are members of the party left with Syed Sobri,” he said, Berita Harian reported.

He said Syed Sobri had placed his personal interests above that of the party.

Syed Sobri, a former Kuala Nerang assemblyman, said earlier today that he was leaving, together with more than 1,000 members.
