On Oct 13, caretaker Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the report by the special committee tasked with investigating the claims made by Thomas in his book “My Story: Justice in the Wilderness” would be declassified.
However, checks by FMT have failed to find the declassified document online. Links to the supposedly declassified report provided by a minister were found to be broken.
When contacted, one government official said questions on the matter should be referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
On Tuesday, Malaysiakini reported Ismail as telling a Barisan Nasional rally in Bagan Datuk, Perak, that the coalition’s machinery should capitalise on the declassified report.
Thomas’ book was published in January last year.
In September, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) revealed that Ismail had asked for Thomas to be investigated for sedition and various other offences as recommended in the report by the special task force.
According to the PMO, those include potential breaches of the Official Secrets Act 1972, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and Sections 124I and 203A of the Penal Code, which relate to the dissemination of false reports and wrongful disclosure of information.
A document said to be a copy of the classified report was leaked online on Oct 6. Bukit Aman is investigating the leak.
