
He said the time had come to field a new leader who is ready and energetic.
“Now is the time for us to let new faces show their talent in serving the people,” he told reporters after visiting a flood mitigation project in Rantau Panjang as a minister with special functions in the caretaker government.
He said if he is not nominated as a candidate, he would continue to be active in politics and help those who are contesting.
Latiff has been MP for Mersing since 1999 and has been re-elected four times as an Umno member, contesting on a Barisan Nasional ticket. After the 2018 general election, he left Umno in December 2018 to be an independent MP and joined Bersatu two months later.
