JKR engineer charged with taking RM20,000 bribe

He was accused of receiving the money through an online transfer involving two company accounts.

The accused also faces five other charges relating to the appointment of a subcontractor for a road project in Kelantan.
SHAH ALAM:
An engineer with the Public Works Department (JKR) pleaded not guilty today to a charge of accepting a RM20,000 bribe in relation to a slope maintenance project two years ago.

Izwan Mahsuri, 39, was a civil engineer with the JKR’s slope engineering branch. He was accused of receiving RM20,000 from a man through an online money transfer from an account belonging to Uji Teguh Resources to an account belonging to SBR Consultant.

Izwan was alleged to have known that the man had a connection with his official duties.

Judge Rozilah Salleh allowed the case to be transferred to the sessions court in Kuala Lumpur where Izwan already faces five corruption charges over the proposed appointment of a subcontractor for a road project in Gua Musang, Kelantan.

He was allowed to remain on his existing RM35,000 bail but ordered his passport to be seized. He is to report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) every month.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Atiqah Mohamad Alias appeared for the MACC while lawyer Hamdan Hamzah represented the accused.
