Suraya, who is also an Umno Supreme Council member, announced her resignation after a state executive council meeting, Berita Harian reported.
No reason was given for her resignation, though speculation is rife that the Kedah state assembly could be dissolved soon.
This is despite PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang reportedly saying the Kedah government will not be dissolving its legislative assembly to hold elections for state seats concurrently with the 15th general election (GE15).
Suraya, who has been the Sungai Tiang assemblyman since 2004, thanked Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah for consenting to her appointment as a state executive councillor in 2020.
When announcing the dissolution of Parliament on Monday, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob urged the state governments to dissolve their legislative assemblies as well.
Ismail, who is heading the caretaker government, said the state and parliamentary elections should be held concurrently as it would smoothen the democratic process, save costs and prevent burdening the people with another election next year.
Sabah, Sarawak, Melaka and Johor do not have to dissolve their state assemblies as they have already held their snap elections.
