Chow said holding the elections simultaneously would ease logistics, adding that there were calls from Penangites for the state polls to be held concurrently with GE15.
He also said Penang DAP had provided its “best argument” on the matter to the party’s top leadership when they met on Tuesday.
“We’ve managed to convince DAP’s top leaders to bring this issue to the Pakatan Harapan leadership meeting that took place yesterday that I attended (as well),” he told reporters on the sidelines of an event here.
“We will wait for the official announcement (on the decision of the polls) tomorrow.”
This is the first time that the Penang chief minister has voiced his support for holding simultaneous polls.
Chow had been tight-lipped about the possible dissolution of the state assembly the past two days after chairing meetings with the state DAP leadership and Penang PH leaders.
Earlier today, FMT reported that DAP and PKR were at odds over whether PH-controlled states should hold their elections simultaneously with the federal polls.
Currently, PH governs Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Penang.
The Sultan of Selangor is not in favour of simultaneous elections and so the state government will complete its full term, while Negeri Sembilan announced that it would most likely hold its state election next year, though it is waiting for the PH presidential council’s decision.
Meanwhile, PAS has announced that the three states it governs, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan, will not dissolve their state assemblies this year.
