The Sungai Pelek assemblyman said there was enough talent in the party to be fielded in the impending polls.
He also pointed out that top leaders of parties like Umno, MCA, MIC and PKR did not contest in both seats.
“The idea (of not contesting in both seats) was first mooted by the late Karpal Singh for the 13th general election,” said Liu in a Facebook post. “It is time to implement his good idea now.”
Currently, former DAP MPs who are still serving as assemblymen are party chairman Lim Guan Eng (Air Puteh), secretary-general Loke Siew Fook (Chennah), vice-presidents Nga Kor Ming (Aulong), Chong Chieng Jen (Padungan) and Chow Kon Yeow (Padang Kota).
Meanwhile, in another Facebook post, Liu said DAP should democratise its candidate selection process by emulating the UK’s Labour Party which allowed grassroots members and local communities to choose the party candidate of their choice.
He also praised PKR’s move to allow non-party members to contest in GE15 under its logo, which he described as a “right step forward towards a more democratic way of deciding candidates”.
Two days ago, DAP announced a five-man committee to decide on the selection of election candidates.
The committee consists of Loke, Lim, Nga, deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo and vice-chairman M Kula Segaran.
Liu claimed in the post that he was making these suggestions in response to questions from an unnamed former DAP assemblyman.
