More new faces in Umno Youth’s GE15 candidate list

Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki says they were selected based on the areas where they could win.

Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the previous state elections in Johor and Melaka had shown that their candidates were able to woo voters and win.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Umno Youth has submitted its list of candidates to contest in the parliamentary and state constituencies in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15), said its chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

He said the candidates consisted of more new faces and were selected based on the areas where they could secure a win.

Asyraf said the previous state elections in Johor and Melaka had shown that the candidates fielded by Umno Youth were able to woo voters and win.

“We propose candidates according to the criteria set by the party, namely winnable, acceptable and likeable by the people.

“We have never pushed for a 30% quota for youth candidates, but our position is that Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) should field young candidates to send out a signal that the coalition is always revitalising and reforming the party internally,” he said.

He said this at a media conference after chairing the Umno Youth exco special meeting.

Asyraf also confirmed that his name was in the list which would be reviewed by BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

On another matter, Asyraf slammed allegations that Umno would drop court cases involving the party’s leaders if it should win and form the government after GE15.
