The Election Commission will have discussions on dates for nomination of candidates and polling day, as well as the Bugaya by-election in Sabah.

Dates for nomination of candidates and the polling day will be decided when the Election Commission meets next week.
PETALING JAYA:
The Election Commission will meet on Oct 20 to discuss dates for the 15th general election.

The meeting, slated to take place at 10am on Oct 20 in Putrajaya, will be chaired by EC chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh.

It will involve discussions on nomination and polling dates for the general election as well as the Bugaya state by-election in Sabah.

“A press conference will be held immediately after the meeting,” EC secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak said in a statement.

Yesterday, the EC opened registration for postal voting for GE15. It said the deadline for registration will be announced after it determines the polling date.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of Parliament in a special address yesterday, paving the way for parliamentary elections to be held.

He also called for state assemblies to be dissolved so that state and federal elections could be held simultaneously.

Moves are under way to dissolve the state assemblies in Perlis and Perak, while the Sultan of Selangor has said the Selangor assembly should serve its full term until mid-2023.
