King briefed on readiness of national flood warning centre

Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah had requested the session with relevant ministers and heads of agencies.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, attended a briefing on the nation’s disaster and flood preparedness at the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (PRABN) in Ampang here today

The closed-door briefing was held at the request of the King to find out the preparedness of the relevant agencies in facing the northeast monsoon season, expected from mid-November to March 2023.

Sultan Abdullah was received by environment and water minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, health minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Chief Secretary to the Government Zuki Ali.

Also present were environment and water ministry secretary-general Zaini Ujang, irrigation and drainage department (DID) director-general Nasir Md Noh and Malaysian meteorological department (MetMalaysia) director-general Helmi Abdullah.

DID and MetMalaysia started the briefing on flood preparations and weather conditions, followed by Khairy, who spoke on the latest Covid-19 situation and the health ministry’s preparedness to deal with floods.

Sultan Abdullah also visited the control centre following the briefing.
