PETALING JAYA:
Twenty people, including military personnel, have been arrested for piracy off Sabah waters, said home minister Hamzah Zainudin.

In a written parliamentary reply, Hamzah said the group was responsible for two heists near Pulau Si Amil on Aug 15 and Aug 18.

He said the suspects were apprehended on Sept 25.

“For your information, the cases are still being investigated and the ministry can only take action once investigations are done,” he said in a written response to a question from Shafie Apdal (Warisan-Semporna).

Hamzah said both cases had been classified under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery, which carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years as well as whipping.
