
This is to allow the state leaders of Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang to focus on flood preparations and helping the flood victims.
“Therefore we will not call for state elections until the floods are over. They have enough time to set a date for the state elections after the floods,” Anwar told reporters after chairing the meeting.
The meeting today was also attended by the menteris besar of Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, Amirudin Shari and Aminuddin Harun, respectively, as well as Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow.
The three states, he added, would not cooperate with the Federal government should the general election be held during the floods.
Anwar said that PH was not going to add on to the suffering of the people.
Two days ago, a meteorological department official said major flooding was unlikely in the weeks up to early November as the northeast monsoon had yet to arrive.
However, the meteorological department predicted thunderstorms and intermittent heavy rain in the evening in parts of the country, which could lead to flash floods.
